Protecting your business from fraud

Smaller firms, unfortunately, can be highly susceptible to incidents of fraud. Here's some tips on protecting your company and to prevent external theft.

Top tips

1. Remember that it is the retailer’s responsibility to be alert, spot fraudulent orders and establish procedures to deal with questionable transactions;

2. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is – refund the sale if necessary and move on;

3. Always ensure that payment for goods have been made and cleared before shipping any goods;

4. Check if the customer and card details marry up by contacting your payment processor;

5. With a card not present transaction, the retailer is 100% liable for any fraud;

6. Watch out for the following combination: online orders for the most expensive products, free email addresses such as Yahoo! or Hotmail and requests for priority shipping;

7. Ask for proof of name and address and call the customer number, if one is available, to make sure that the business exits.

Work Experience Week at AJT Equipment

Every year, AJT Equipment take on work experience students to come and work with us for a week. Work experience allows employers to provide a young person with a great experience, allowing them to build a platform for their future.

This week, we have partnered with local school, The Wordsley School. 

Students experience includes completing some basic office and/or shop floor tasks as well as learning and understanding the company's work standards and policies. 

Young people benefit massively from a good quality work experience scheme. It helps them to break the cycle of 'no work experience - no work' and AJT is proud to be providing a good quality work opportunity that allows them to gain invaluable skills, helping them to tackle that first step into the workplace. 

We have found this to be a a great way to meet fresh minded, motivated and innovative individuals.

Engineering students visit AJT Equipment

A group of engineering students from the City University London recently visited AJT Equipment Ltd site at Brierley Hill to film a Chain Breaking in slow motion. The students were also given a tour of the site where they were able to see at first hand a range of high-profile manufacturing activities.

Trope is a creative collaboration made between artists Carol MacGillivray and Bruno Mathez based in London. They are involved in an art exhibition at the Kirkaldy Testing Museum called 'Chain Reaction'. 

This visit was the focus and inspiration for their exhibition. Their feedback was that everyone had a great time being involved in two processes that they have never experiences before: a chain breaking motion and filming with 'lights, cameras, action'.

Recycle for charity 
Recycle4Charity helps its thousands of members raise funds for charity by providing a free, easy to use, custom branded recycling programme. They service the recycling and fundraising needs of the smallest home user to the largest business and charity campaigns by recycling empty printer inkjet cartridges and mobile phones.

Gocharitable
GoCharitable.com has been set-up to help raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, by simply asking businesses and households through-out the United Kingdom to purchase their basic necessities with us to help a charity that aims to bringing smiles and laughter into the lives of seriously and terminally ill children, who are afraid and in pain, by granting wishes and creating fun in hospitals and hospices throughout the UK.

Our approach is predominantly to provide unrestricted funding to charities to allow them to use their expertise to provide the greatest benefit possible. Where appropriate we seek to agree partnerships with organisations over a number of years to give them the stability required to develop as they need to.
